Erin Klein is an elementary educator in Michigan. She has won countless awards in the field of education, and even hosts webinars for the United States Department of Education to share her experiences and classroom knowledge. She shares all of this on her website, as well as staying active on Twitter.
As I read through Erin Klein's blog, I was particularly interested in a few posts. This post was all about how to make grading enjoyable for the teacher. She discusses how homework should be varied in form. Grading endless piles of worksheets and tests takes time and is monotonous. By mixing up the exercises done in class, grading doesn't have to be so bad. Klein recommends using apps that track student progress, assessing them as they learn. |
One such app, Quizalize, shows students what they need to work on most, and allows teachers to help each student and see their progress. Also, grading in class through discussions or presentations can be effective.
I also enjoyed learning how Erin Klein uses Scholastic Magazines with second graders. The magazine along with its digital content provide a break from textbook learning, while still teaching students about a relevant topic. Reading and looking at the photos engages the students, often allowing them to see something in a new way.
Overall, Klein's website is rich with helpful teacher tips and tricks. She shares experiences from her own classroom while also recommending new products and ways to integrate technology into the classroom.
