Mathy Cathy
Cathy Yenca is a middle school math teacher in Pennsylvania. She is an Apple Distinguished Teacher and shares her experiences on her blog and through Twitter.
Mathy Cathy is full of great math education resources. I enjoyed her post on Pi Day, as she shared links to various resources she uses to celebrate including a Happy Pi Day greeting card, activities, and even songs. Her online store is also linked to through Mathy Cathy, where you can pay to download certain classroom resources she has created.

One of Cathy's classroom activities that I definitely want to implement in my future classroom is the math write-around activity. Students work in groups of 4-5. They each begin with a problem by performing the first step and signing their name. Then, the paper is passed to the next student to perform the next step. Mistakes are discussed among students and fixed. This is a great way for students to learn from each other and use teamwork to solve a problem.
Finally, Mathy Cathy includes great uses if your classroom is 1:1 with iPads. One lesson Cathy taught included students working in teams to quickly create a 2 minute presentation on a certain topic from their math chapter. Students enjoyed the activity overall, and found technology a great way to share their knowledge with their classmates for certain problems.
